5The Best Too $hort Has to Offer From the 80's  Sep 18, 2008
In terms of Too $hort's 80's releases, 'Born to Mack' is definitely the best of the bunch. The beats are some of the best that the old school had to offer and the lyrics feature Too $hort at the top of his game.

Although it's only a mere eight tracks long, most of the songs eclipse eight minutes in length, so it's not that short of a release when you put it in those terms. Of course, it's Too $hort, so lyrically it deals with him macking and pimping. Believe it or not, rappers who rhymed about "dirty" subjects were just emerging during this time period, so it wasn't as common as it is today.

It's certainly not very deep, but if you want an enjoyable classic hip-hop album with fun lyrics and great beats, then I'd suggest giving 'Born to Mack' a try.

Standout tracks: 'Mack Attack', 'Freaky Tales', 'Dope Fiend Beat'.

55 Star   Apr 17, 2008
Too Short is the Ultimate PIMP - If you like this album check out Smoke Sessions, Vol. 1 - from his homie Devin the Dude another 5 Stars

44.5 stars from $hort Dog  Feb 11, 2008
The Oakland Mack is back again with another 4.5 star album. This is the 15th album of $hort's I have, and all his albums from 1988-1995 are 5 star classics or 4.5 star great albums. His 1996 album is my least favorite and worht 3, then he came back in 1999 and 2000 with 4.5 star ralbums, and every one since 2001 is probably 3.5 stars. But back to this one, this is classic Old school $hort Dog. 7 long dirty x-rated songs over deep bass funky sounding beats with no guests. Of the 7 songs 1 is ok, 1 is a classic, 2 are almost classics, ad the other 3 are good. Production is great as well, like on all his older albums, has the great funk sound to it not the sown south crunk style he works with now. A must have album from a true pioneer in the rap game.

#1 - 8
#2 - 8.5 (good beat)
#3 - 8.5
#4 - 7
#5 - 9.5 (tight beat with 9+ minutes of his Freaky Tales)
#6 - 9.5 (another tight beat and dirty song)
#7 - 10 (CLASSIC about little girls over a great beat)

5A little Too Short, but hot!!!!!!!  Sep 04, 2006
I agree with Todd. G from Oakland.. it is a tad bit Too Short, but in my opinion, I'd rather it be a little Too Short than a little too long. Lets look at some of todays albums that have like 5 interludes and 3 filler songs, or dumb remixes, etc. I have respect for the fact that Short wanted this album to be alone, as opposed to adding it to another album, like Short Dog's in the House. Dope Fiend Beat was later "redone" by Bun B with Short Dog in Who need a B, but this album has five stars written all over it.

3Good Songs but not a full album to me.  Mar 21, 2006
Maybe i would appreciate this album more if i heard it when it actually was released in 1989. I also know this album has a lot of history in it but I cant give it a good review for the fact it isn't a full CD. Good songs are dope fiend beat. Those are the only good songs to me. Mack attack and little girls are good. I understand that this album went platinum but as a true too short fan I find this to be one of his weaker albums as a whole. It has 2 good classic hits which is why it gets 3/5. For every Too Short review check out my other reviews
