I wish I could rate this below 1 star Jan 02, 2009 If you are considering buying this game, please do yourself a favor and refrain. Never in my life have I played such a boring, repetitive turd of a game. I don't want to make this long, so i'm going to give a quick run-through of what you can expect.
-Drive to mission. All vehicles in the game top out at about 35, so it takes forever to get anywhere. This is only made worse by the fact that you are attacked less than every minute by other people on the road. Seriously, for every minute of driving, you will have to stop, get out, and kill someone.
-Get mission.
-Drive to objective. This will be exactly like driving to the mission, however I left out the guard posts in that section. As if random people on the road aren't enough, every couple of minutes you will come to a guard post. If you drive through in your ridiculously slow vehicle, you will likely be shot enough to cause you to have to stop and fix your car. If you do make it through, someone will come chasing you and you'll have to stop anyway.
-Complete mission. For all of the driving, it will probably take you 2 minutes to beat the actual mission. So after you beat a mission (and they're all pretty much the same) you just start over.
This game is nothing more than these few steps repeated over and over again for many hours. There is no game on earth that is more boring or repetitive.

Not a far cry from great!!! Jan 01, 2009 This game is a one of a kind. The settings are more realistic and interactive than any other game that I've played. The characters are very realistic looking. The trees move when the player walks through the woods. There are birds chirping and all kinds of wild life are making sounds through the lands. The player will feel as if he is really in the wilderness. The shadows are realistic and the weather effects, as well. The sunsets are very realistic, too. Once, it was raining. The rain was so realistic because it just seemed as if I was in a real rainstorm. With the rain and the mist of the rain hitting the trees, I could hardly see ahead. Then, there is the gameplay. Fortunately, for COD players, the controls are similar, which is excellent. I didn't have to re-learn the controls to the game, which is rare. Riding in vehicles isn't the greatest experience, but the first person look of being in the vehicle is ok. Engaging enemies at safe houses and camps aren't easy. It is extremely hard to sneak up on them. The possiblitly of a successful stealth mission is far from the MGS and Splinter Cell experience. The player must act fast, when enemies have their back turned. Don't hesitate. It is still difficult. Even at a distance, they'll somehow see you and start to fire. They will quickly try to flank you and sometimes, it is hard to tell where shots are coming from. Also, the player won't know the exact location of an enemy, such as COD. When traveling from place to place, proceed with caution! A player can easily travel to areas where enemy are. All of a sudden you are under attack. Now, one thing that is cool about gunfights is if enemies are shot and they don't die, don't worry! They'll still be effected by being shot. This is where more of the realism of the game comes in. If hit in other places, they'll noticably limp or stagger to cover. I ran up on one enemy in this condition and easily killed him. Now, I did wound a man in a chair and he continued to fire, so be careful! The explosions are very cool and interactive. In fact, they are a little better than COD. Other cool features are the GPS, which helps a player find diamonds that are scattered through the land. By the way, diamonds are the only thing that can be used to purchase weapons, and other things. It could make a player feel as if he is on a treasure hunt. Overall, Far Cry 2 will put you in the realm of GTA because of the openess. It will remind players of COD for the controls, characters, weapon authenticity, and blood animation. The game will also remind a player of Mercenaries do to the fact that a player can travel through war zones and deal with two different factions. If a player could just sneak up on enemies better, I'd rate this game a five, instead of a four.

I Don't Get the Hate for This Game Dec 29, 2008 I waited until Christams to get this game. I waited becuase I read tons of reveiws saying this is one of the worst games. It's boring, it's repetetive, and the multiplayer sucks. I just got it a few days ago and I'm happy to say it wasn't a waste of money. I acually find it highly enjoyable. Lots of people had said the driving is bad, but I didn't really mind it. The only thing I didn't like about it was that you constantly had to get out and kill guards who constantly attacked you. It made sense if you're enemies with their faction, but I get attacked by everyone. Another thing I didn't like was I never knew who was attacking me. There's nothing to distinguish the two factions apart. Another thing I read from positive reviews is that you should play in small portions to not get bored. I truly don't get this. I've played for several hours straight and never got bored. It's a 50km sq map. How can you get bored? There just seems to be always something to do. The gunplay in this was another thing I liked. It was realistic. You can't just shoot at something and expect to always hit it. Some guns aren't very accurate. And you'll have to occasionaly swap guns to keep your current gun from jamming from constant use.
The things I didn't like about this game was that the AI is so bad, the game is made extremely easy. I've walked past guards and they don't notice me until I get in a car. They don't take cover, throw grenades, or anything except shoot. Another thing I didn't find very good was the malaria. While healing your wounds was a nice implement, (nothing like wathcing yourself pry a bullet out of your arm with plyers), I found the whole malaria thing annoying. When you have pills, you just take them when you're prompted to. But the missions are annoyances when you have to go and get more pills from the underground. Despite these problems, I found this game to be highly enjoyable.

Far Cry 2 Dec 21, 2008 If you loved the first game you won't be disappointed with the sequel. Just like most of the best games, it takes a few hours to become a pro. The freedom of movement and control over your destiny makes replaying the game a continual adventure. This game allows you to create your own strategies, and then adapt them as you see fit. Do what you want, whenever you want! The available weapons in the game are fantastic! I'm a big fan of COD 4 and World at War - especially their online play. However, Far Cry 2 is much more fun in single player mode - much, much more fun! If you want to buy a game that you can have fun continually replaying in single player as well as multiplayer, this is your game!
