Affordable Blu-Ray that will soon be outdated Jan 06, 2009 As my first experience with Blu-Ray, it's hard to gauge how this player ranks with picture and sound quality. However I think it's important to rate this player independently of the Blu-Ray format, so I'll try my best.
The first thing that struck me is that this player is exceptionally slow. With research, I've come to find that Blu-Ray players in general are having problems getting "up to speed". Regardless, operating this player can be a serious game of "how much can you wait". Even something as simple as ejecting the tray from standby can be a solid 10 second delay as the player lazily wakes up. Skipping chapters becomes a chore, and switching discs turns into a lesson in tedium. I suppose this creates the atmosphere of watching Blu-Ray discs as an Event, and nothing less.
In terms of features, the BD-P1500 gives you a modicum of bells and whistles. There's a 24frames per second movie mode, and the ability to adjust your sound space. There is a USB port for viewing other media like pictures and videos, and an ethernet port to connect to the Internet. Sadly, this is only to upgrade the firmware, and does not support BD-Live functionality, making this player already somewhat obsolete. There is also no Picture in Picture or Multiple Angles features supported by the player.
If you're looking for a value player that gets you in the 1080p game and you don't want to concern yourself for any flashy features (that 60% of the time aren't worth the bother), then you'll find an adequate piece of equipment here that focuses strictly on offering an excellent picture quality, and not much else.
A piece of junk and ZERO customer service Jan 05, 2009 This product was defective from the moment I got it. Frequent audio dropouts during playback with any disc. I sent it in for repair and they sent it back exactly as broken as it ever was. Now they will only ask me to send it in AGAIN and are completely rude about it to boot. There is a reason this is discounted over the Sonys. Samsung knows this player is defective and just wants to unload them. DO NOT BUY unless you just want to flush 200+$ and a chunk of your life down the toilet.
Couldn't be happier Jan 04, 2009 I compared this DVD player to the Sony models...couldn't tell the difference and the price was much better on the Samsung.

Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-Ray Player Jan 03, 2009 I had purchased a Samsung 650 Series LCD television a couple of months ago, and wanted the Samsung player because it interacts with the television. I didn't need to add another remote to the mix. I was a little concerned with the fair amount of negative reviews of this product. However, I took the chance. I am glad I did. This player performes exactly as it should. I didn't want a player with a lot of bells & whistles, and this player does exactly what I wanted it to. It does a good job of upgrading the quality of my older movies. It even plays dvds that I made myself on an older recorder, copied from vhs-c tapes, made when my 26 year old son was a youngster!! I bought this before Thanksgiving and waited this long to see if it would perform as it should. It has. If you want a good basic machine, you can't go wrong with this one. You can't beat Amazon's price either.
SLOW, BUT GOOD BLU-RAY PLAYER Jan 02, 2009 This was my first blu-ray player and first experience with blu-ray movies.
As always, Amazon was Johnny on the spot with prompt delivery.
Hook up and start up of the player was simple and painless using an HDMI cable and digital optical cable for sound. The player was hooked up to a Samsung 52" lcd tv (quite possibly the coolest this I've ever purchased aside from my first DeWalt cordless screw gun).
My wife and I were stunned as we watching the beginning of Iron Man on blu-ray...check out the mountains in the opening scene!
Movies on blu-ray are comprable to the difference between regular TV cable and HD channels. Wow.
My only complaint is that the player does take time to load movies...perhaps due to the extra memory the discs deal with....but I can live with that.
