Awesome Dec 24, 2008 Great graphics and game play. Game is also fun to play. I would recommend for the casual to the extreme gamer.
The Perfect Soul. Dec 22, 2008 When the Dreamcast hit US shores back in '99 we were all rewarded with a platform for the greatest fighter ever: Soul Calibur. The first game in the series set the tone for its brilliant sequel, the suprisingly- disappointing third iteration, and then this gem: SOUL CALIBUR IV. Simple Namco recipe was to add weapons into its brilliant 3D fighter formulas. Although nothing like Tekken or its forefather Battle Arena Toshiden this game takes weapons brawlers to a new realm. Especially with this current generation's Soul Calibur. Never before has the series been online, SOUL CALIBUR IV is online enabled.
In case you don't know who the guests are this time around its Star Wars leaders Yoda and Vader. Nothing compared to Spawn or Link but its a return to a much loved tradition of guest fighters. Having light-sabers into the mix adds spice and fan-fare. I like Yoda even more after being recently unlocked on the Playstation store. The roster of characters doesn't end at Star Wars many of the characters were done by GUEST character designers from the manga/anime world. Angol Fear and Asholette are examples of these guest-designed characters. Lets end this raving review here because its obvious if your a fan of fighting games SOUL CALIBUR IV is already in your collection. Join us in the ever active online community with crazy customized characters(its back from 3) and challenging battles.
Enjoyable Dec 14, 2008 The game has a great fun factor. However I found it was somewhat short in the story mode. Character creation was perhaps the best part of the game. I would love to create a fighter with Darth Vader's fighting style however I haven't found a way to do this so am not sure whether this is even possible.
The Soul Still Burns!!! Dec 10, 2008 Soul Calibur has always been one of my favorite fighting games. SC4 is no different. The game has almost everything I could ask for. Custom character setup has been greatly improved. Now you can choose which style you want your character to fight like instead of being assigned a certain discipline. The graphics and control is outstanding. I also like the addition of Star Wars characters (especially Apprentice Starkiller).
The different skill sets in the game makes the game very deep and gives it a lot of replay value. The game even has a new and improved boss from the last SC game. One thing that I miss is the Battle Theater mode and Exhibition Theater mode. For some unknown reason, these two modes, which were in every single SC game before SC4 have now been removed. The game could also use a few more stages and more clothing for the Star Wars characters. As a matter of fact, I would have loved to see a Force Gauge skill set for Star Wars characters. If your character has Force Gauge A then his Force Gauge will never deplete. Unfortunately this was never put into the game but this is still in my opinion the best fighting game of the year.
Soul Calibur IVis still a great game. Dec 01, 2008 I have played Soul Calibur 1-4. This is a great fighting game, but mainly for multiplayer action. The story itself is way too short and I wished it would have been longer and more meaningful. Actually I would not consider this a story, it is almost like SC3 but with a new boss.
Challenges are great when you fight multiple character's(1 at a time) before you can progress.
A highly improved character creation and weapons upgrade, far exceeding SC3. Each piece of costume and acessories has it's pros and cons of adding it to your character, so you must balance your characer the best you can.
The tower is the most challenging part of this game, it can get very difficult as you progress.
I recommend buying this game for any Soul Calibur fan out there. It may not be the original many have loved on the Dreamcast, but it is still something you will enjoy on the PS3
Newcomers to the Soul Calibur franchise may not feel up to par with this game, but its a definate rental for you guys.
